Mayfield Athletics partnered with Sorbothane, Inc. to enhance football helmet safety through its S.A.F.E. (Shock Absorbing Football Equipment) Clip facemask brackets. Recognizing the limitations of traditional facemask designs, the teams collaborated to develop a shock-absorbing Sorbothane® component that deforms on impact to absorb shock before quickly returning to its original shape. Testing has shown the S.A.F.E. Clip can reduce up to 28% of G-forces and is compatible with over 95% of existing football helmets, offering a practical and impactful upgrade to player protection.
ShockSorb Tennis Racket Vibration Damper

Sorbothane, Inc. also partnered with former professional tennis player Sky Kim to develop the ShockSorb vibration damper. Designed to minimize harmful vibrations without sacrificing feel, the damper helps reduce strain on the arm and shoulder while preserving the responsive “pop” players expect. This vibration-absorbing material helps limit fatigue and discomfort during play. Testing and user feedback showed improvements in comfort, reduced fatigue, and enhanced overall playing experience.
